Akshardham Temple- The Crown adoring Yamuna

There are numerous monuments in Delhi for you to visit. Akshardham Temple or Swaminarayan temple is one of the most remarkably architectured temples in Delhi. Truly admired, magnificent temple and the most visited place in Delhi. The Swaminarayan Akshardham is an epitome of beauty and Indian culture which adorns the banks of Yamuna. Though the temple is not ancient as compare to other Indian landmarks but the architecture and culture it exhibits is at its best.

The initiation of Akshardham Temple in Delhi:
With the blessings of Pramukh Swami Maharaj the temple had opened its gate for its devotees and general public on November 6th, 2005 near the banks of historical river Yamuna. At the center of the huge Temple complex rests the main monument which was constructed as per guidelines set by the Pancharatra Shastra and the Vastu Shastra.

The dream of a Yamuna side Temple:
Yogiji Maharaj of Swaminarayan Sanstha had dreamed this temple on the banks of river Yamuna and expressed his wish to few of his disciples. The planning had started in 1968 but after a of struggle of 18 years for approval Pramukh Swami Maharaj was finally able to complete Swamiji’s dream, but sadly Swamiji did not live to see his dream.

The Main Temple:

The main temple is built in Carrara marble at the center of the complex and is decorated with splendid work of Indian architecture in form of dancers, musicians, deities and flora and fauna. Gajendra Pith which serves as its base and central dome of the temple shelters 11 feet idol of Swaminarayan created with Panch Dhatu and surrounded by other idols.

Must see attractions within the Temple campus:
a.            The Hall of Values: Known as the Sahajanand Pradarshan, the life of Swaminarayan has been depicted in form of a pictorial representation.
b.            Boat Ride: The thrilling boat ride in a peacock shaped boat will pass across the artificial model of the first university of India, Takshashila.
c.             Musical Fountain: The mesmerizing musical fountain at the Akshardham is named as the Yagnapurush Kund and is one of the largest fountain in India.
